ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

Kankakee Community College Kankakee, Illinois Kankakee Community College (KCC) is located on a scenic 177-acre campus 60 miles south of Chicago and provides high quality transfer and career programs, adult education and literacy programs at multiple sites throughout its 1,600-square-mile district. The college enrol more than 6,000 students annually through credit, and corporate & continuing education programs and is dedicated to the mission of enhancing quality of life through learning.?


KCC is seeking to fill the following temporary, one year, full-time faculty position beginning August 14, 2017.?


• Assistant Professor – Chemistry & Physics?


Description:


The physics/chemistry instructor's primary function is to provide instruction and assess student learning in physics and chemistry courses. ?The instructor will collaborate with colleagues to maintain and develop curriculum, serve on college committees, and perform other duties appropriate for a faculty member as assigned. ?The physics/chemistry instructor is dedicated to learning college concepts and develops programs and facilitates activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.


Examples of Duties:


• Provide instruction and assess student learning within their program area.?


• Select and review educational strategies and materials to facilitate achievement of competencies related to each course taught.?


• Prepare current syllabi and instructional materials in accordance with course master syllabi, college policies and procedures.?


• Collaborate with colleagues to review and revise curriculum, teaching materials, and teaching methods to promote student success and lifelong learning.?


• Advise, counsel and assist students enrolled in their program in accomplishing their course and program goals.?


• Meet classes as scheduled by the college and maintain office hours as stated in the KCC Faculty Association Contract.?


• Evaluate student performance, including maintaining and providing tenth day and midterm attendance in addition to grade records for each class.?


• Remain current with content, technology, and teaching and learning strategies in the discipline.?


• Assess student learning outcomes at the class, course, and program levels as defined by the faculty Assessment Committee.?


• Participate in curriculum and course development.?


• Attend division and faculty meetings and communicate regularly with the division associate dean regarding instructional concerns.?


• Function as an academic advisor for students enrolled in their division and assist in the advisement and scheduling process during in-service week.


• Participate in faculty evaluation and in-service development activities.?


• Work in a collaborative manner and respond to phone and email requests promptly.


• Assist the division associate dean in the recruitment and selection of part-time instructors.?


• Provide course materials and assistance to part-time instructors as requested by the division associate dean.?


• Serve on college committees as stated in the KCC Faculty Association Contract.?


• Assist in budget preparation by recommending supplies and capital items where applicable.?


• Follow the policies and procedures of the college as stated in the Faculty Handbook and the KCC Faculty Association Contract.?


• Represent and interpret the program informally at available opportunities such as high school visits, community gatherings, etc.?


• Attend the commencement program.


Minimum Qualifications:


• Master's degree in chemistry with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in chemistry plus a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in physics (or a closely related field) is required; OR Master's degree in physics with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in physics plus a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in chemistry (or a closely related field) is required.?


• Prior experience as an excellent, innovative teacher, and with the use of instructional technologies desirable; community college teaching experience preferred.


• Qualified candidate must have strong reading, writing, communication, and computation skills as well as be computer literate or willing to learn.
