?Assistant Public Works Director - Utilities

The Assistant Public Works Director–Utilities is a management level single-position classification responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the day-to-day operations of the Water Treatment Plant and the Wastewater Treatment Facility, including ensuring that divisions achieve management and budget goals and that all legal compliance requirements are met. This position will coordinate design and construction of facilities, provide highly complex staff assistance to the Public Works Director, and act as the Director in his/her absence.

Ideal Candidate

Educational and/or Experience Requirements:

Education:? Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, chemistry, biology, environmental science, or a related field.?

Experience:? Six (6) years of recent, full-time increasingly responsible experience in water/wastewater utility administration including two (2) years of management and supervisory responsibility.? Additional experience in both administrative and operational areas is preferable.?

Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license is required.? ?One or more of the following are required upon hire:

1.???Possession of registration with the State of California as a Civil or Mechanical Engineer.

2.? ?Possession of a Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate Issued by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).? A Grade V is desirable.

3.? ?Possession of a Grade IV Water Treatment Operator Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).? A Grade V is desirable.



Salary: The current salary for a Assistant Public Works Director - Utilities is $9,445 - $11,481 monthly.?

Retirement: New employees into the CalPERS retirement system will enroll in the 2% @ 62 formula and pay the 7% CalPERS employee contribution.?Employees meeting CalPERS classic member status will enroll in the 2% @ 55 formula. Classic PERS members will cost share 7% of the employer contribution rate.?The City does not participate in Social Security. Internal candidates will maintain their current retirement formula.?

Administrative Leave: 80 hours; payoff maximum is 40 hours annually with a carry over option.

Deferred Compensation: The City contributes $100 per month.

Medical/Dental/Vision: The City offers an excellent benefits package with generous City contributions for employees and their dependents to health, dental and vision premiums.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The City offers employees and family members up to three (3) sessions per six (6) month period, for a total of six (6) sessions per year.?

Life Insurance: $50,000 for employee & $2,000 for dependents paid by the City. Employees may elect to purchase additional coverage.

Tuition Reimbursement: City pays $1,000 towards tuition and $150 towards books annually for job related courses. Non-job related courses are paid at 50%(subject to approval).

Vacation: 13 days annually for new employees. Vacation accrual increases with time of service up to a maximum of 23 days.?

Sick Leave: 12 days annually. Unlimited accrual with pay off provision upon termination of City employment with a minimum of 5 years of City service.

Holiday:The City offers 11 paid holidays and 2 floating holidays per year.

Flexible Spending Account: Allows for pre-tax deductions for unreimbursed medical and dependent care expenses.

Computer Purchase Program: Assists employees in the purchase of computer.
