MENTOR

Each mentor/monitor will have a caseload of 30 students from grades 9-12.?


They will: maintain the daily monitoring, counseling, planning and coordinating of service-learning projects with the college AIBL students and faculty and the community; attend NYLT summer training and Summer Institute; and facilitate implementation with teachers and students of service-learning projects.


General Summary:


Each mentor/monitor will have a caseload of 30 students from grades 9-12. They will: maintain the daily monitoring, counseling, planning and coordinating of service-learning projects with the college AIBL students and faculty and the community; attend NYLT summer training and Summer Institute; and facilitate implementation with teachers and students of service-learning projects.


Position Responsibilities:


• Monitor day to day attendance, progress, and performance of caseload of high school students.


• Work closely with Project Coordinator, Connecting Through Service Program, students, teachers, parents, and community members to deliver support and services.


• Intervene in a timely manner to reestablish and maintain students connection to school and learning.


• Actively assist in the development and review of all program components.


• Address all concerns, incidents, or crises that affect program goals and objectives.


• Respect and maintain confidentiality of all staff and youth participants in the Mentor Program.


• Maintain accurate files and compile statistical records to support ongoing program needs and inform ongoing assessment and evaluation.


• Prepare and submit report to the Fond du Lac Ojibwe School Board, partners, and others as identified.


• Interact with all personnel in a professional manner for the purpose of achieving all program goals (i.e. personnel includes college students, high school youth, parents and community members, school administrators, instructors, counselors, and school records personnel).


• Work with Professional-technical staff to assist in coordinating paths for students.


• Work to include parents/guardians into the mentor experience.


• Interact with community organizations, businesses, and other agencies as identified.


• Identify all data needs.


• Gather and maintain all relevant data, such as data on mentor/mentee screening, interviews, and selection; college shadow days; special projects; academic achievements; attendance/ and any other related data significant to the programs development and improvement.


• Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.


• Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.


• Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.


• Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.


• Maintains a clean and organized work area.


• Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.


Position Qualifications:


• Associate's degree, preferably in related field, is strongly desired.


• Must have a broad based knowledge of the family and social issues that American Indian youth face today, including the generational impacts of the school system and an understanding of the Ojibwe culture and traditions.


• Ability to work effectively with other agencies.
