Team: Windows Live Hotmail

The Windows Live Hotmail team is looking for an experienced, passionate, and motivated Test Developer to join the storage efforts of Hotmail. Our team is responsible for providing highly reliable, scalable, fast and cost effective cloud based storage for more than 500 million users around the world - This technology is a part of our core Hotmail platform and is expanding to other properties in Windows Live. It integrates with highly sophisticated anti-spam technologies and has a highly scalable protocol layer, which allows quick and easy access to clients of all types. We are looking for a seasoned engineer with a thorough understanding of testing methodologies and processes, a strong passion for quality, the technical acumen to move us forward, and a desire to make a positive change in the product.

Position: Software Development Engineer in Test II

As a Software Development Engineer in Test within Windows Live Experience, you’re a developer who likes to break things. You strive for quality and are focused in improving issues around performance, stress, security, reliability, and more. You’re an advocate for the user experience, and determined in ensuring we ship a stable, robust product that delights and excites our users - on time. You have proven success completing multiple product cycles, you have skills worth replicating across the testing organization and you work to make others around you better.

To do this, you’ll partner closely with members of both the development and program management teams to design and test new features, develop tools & automation, and enhance the overall test infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for writing test plans & test cases, performing ad hoc, manual, and automated testing, filing bug reports, and interacting with dogfooders & beta testers. In this role, you will define, drive, and architect the short and long term plans for our storage platform.

In addition, you may assist with bug fixing & troubleshooting, code review & code coverage, buddy testing, and work collaboratively to resolve issues both within your team and across the broader organization.

Requirements:

We’re looking for a variety of skills and experience levels in both web and client (win32) based applications.

Above all else, we’re looking for smart, passionate candidates who have:
5-7 years experience contributing to complex features or products, ideally including multiple full product cycles
Proven design, coding, and debugging skills with proficiency in C++, and/or C#, ASP.NET and XML Web Services
Strong knowledge in data structures, algorithms, and Object Oriented programming techniques.
A BS/MS in computer science or equivalent industry experience
An open, collaborative communication style
An ability to think fast and learn quickly
A passion for quality
Test tools development experience is preferred

The following knowledge will help but can also be acquired on the job:
Knowledge of storage and enterprise database systems
Experience with standardized communication protocols, such as POP, IMAP, and SMTP
