MOTOR Information Systems, an operating group of Hearst, has an exciting opportunity for a passionate Business and Data Analyst who understands that building complex web experiences requires truly researched and engineered solutions. We are looking for someone possessing a data analysis / intelligence, finance / contacts (entitlements) and web products background who wants to be part of our mission to transform the future. As such, we have a rare opportunity for you to use your talent, passion, and expertise to help drive product ownership and how we build our customer facing product lines, and how consumers experience the MOTOR Platform. As such, this is not purely a Data Analyst or traditional Business Analyst (BA) role. Having a strong database, SQL, and Business Intelligence background will be important when working with our Product Management, our technical team BA’s and the business. You will need to be multi-functional and possess a combination of capabilities from other roles. You will function as a skillful BA while also bringing a mix of Product Owner, finance, and data analysis skills to the table.

• Work with Product Management and the broader business (sales, finance) to document current contracts and data entitlement landscape as it exists today
• Work with the business to define the future state of contracts, data entitlement, and workflows
• Support Product Management in understanding the competitive business landscape
• Support Product Management in understanding business needs and the development of requirements
• Act as a liaison between our technical BA’s and Product Management stakeholders
• Do research, such as interviewing customers and stakeholders, to determine requirements and creating business and functional specifications
• Analyze and organize information to understand, communicate, and help implement business requirements
• Provide coordination between customers, business stakeholders, experience design, and the technical BA’s before, during, and after projects
• Facilitate a consistent and organized flow of information during projects
• Determine operational objectives by studying business functions, gathering information, and evaluating output requirements and formats
• Construct workflow charts and diagrams to communicate functionality and system and data workflows
• Document business, functional, and technical specifications
• Create data analysis reports and Business Intelligence reports.
• Improve systems by studying current best practices and latest trends
• Identify and implement process improvements
• Maintain user confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
• Prepare technical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
• Conduct and coordinate financial, product, market, operational, and related research to support strategic and business planning within the various departments of the organization
• Participate in the Experience Design process and Customer Experience integration into product development
• Interpret, evaluate, and interrelate research data to develop projections for incorporation into strategic decision-making
• Plan and coordinate the development of market research and customer engagement in support of strategic product planning initiatives
• Perform reviews and analyses of product platforms using operational metrics and reports
• Understand and communicate the impacts of proposed product and technology changes
• Suggest changes to leadership using analytics to support your recommendations. Actively participate in the implementation of approved changes
• Create informative, actionable, and repeatable reporting that highlights relevant business trends and opportunities for improvement
• Conduct insightful, ad hoc analyses to investigate ongoing or one-time operational issues
• Facilitate day-to-day coordination while adhering to standards and stakeholder expectations
• Collaborate with technical BAs and other stakeholders to deliver quality products on time and on budget


• Strong background in technology with prior hands-on experience with databases, data analysis, and querying data
• Experience working with management, product owners and executive stakeholders
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are a must; negotiating skills are an essential skill
• Understanding of technical specifications and must be able to communicate in “business” and “technical” to bridge the gap
• Strong SQL and BI skills to create queries to analyze and work with data
• Ability to impact operations and affect change without being confrontational, strong collaborator and team player
• Detail oriented, analytical, and inquisitive
• Ability to work independently and with others
• Extremely organized with strong time-management skills
• Ability to convey requirements via use cases, workflows, prototypes, and/or even user interface mockups
