Spain's Acciona eyes sale of up to 7 ferries

The spokesman gave no further details of the sale of part of the fleet held by its 80-percent owned subsidiary Trasmediterranea. The company website shows the vessels typically have capacity for at least 500 passengers as well as cars.

Trasmediterranea operates ferries from the Spanish mainland to destinations in the Mediterranean Sea and the Spanish Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, many of which host important tourist resorts.

The number of tourists visiting Spain in the first-half of 2009 fell 11.4 percent to 23.6 million, compared to a year ago, reflecting a sector facing the difficulties caused by the global economic crisis.
