ASHTEAD BUILDS ON IPHONE SUCCESS TO PUT MUST-HAVE GADGET ON

Ashtead (AHT.L), Britain's largest plant hire company, is set to equip its UK sales force with Apple iPhones, to enable them to provide instant quotes and information about the availability of equipment. Ashtead has spent two years working on the system for the iPhone platform and rolled out the technology in the United States in June to staff in its Sunbelt Rentals division. About 600 staff in the UK would be equipped with the Apple devices in a move that is seen as a huge technical leap for the construction industry.

BARCLAYCARD CEO GIVEN MILLIONS FOR PROMOTION THAT NEVER CAME

Barclaycard (BARC.L) chief executive Antony Jenkins received a multi-million pound compensation payment after it was decided that there was no room for Jenkins on Barclays' powerful executive committee. Jenkins had been poached from Citigroup in 2006, when he was promised a role on the committee. However, Barclays subsequently underwent a shake-up, which saw Frits Seegers placed in charge of a new retail and commercial banking division and effectively taking the executive committee seat promised to Jenkins. It is thought that a further shake-up is due, which could see Seegers depart the business.
