Network Systems and Data Communications Analyst: Fastest-Growing Job for 2016

A recent article on the Boston.com lists 30 fastest-growing jobs predicted for 2016, and the # 1 in the list is that of a Network Systems and Data Communications Analyst, a highly critical & responsible job in any organization as most rely on computer networks.

According to the BLS' Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2014-15 Edition, Network and Computer Systems Administrators, (http://www.bls.gov/ooh/computer-and-information-technology/network-and-computer-systems-administrators.htm), Network and computer systems administrators are responsible for the day-to-day operation of these networks. They organize, install, and support an organization’s computer systems, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), network segments, intranets, and other data communication systems.

This job has a projected increase of 53.4% in 2016. In 2006, 262,000 were employed in this position. In 2012, the number grew to 366,400.

The median pay for a Network Systems and Data Communications Analyst (Network and Computer Systems Administrator as listed in the BLS) in 2006 was $67,460, while in 2012, it was $72,560 per year, or $34.88 per hour.

As far as education and training are concerned, a bachelor's degree is required, although some employers may require only a 2-year degree. Also, employers place a high value on relevant work experience.

The job outlook is indeed positive as businesses implement more and newer technology, more professionals will be needed to monitor efficiency and set up networks.

Some of the duties of a Network Systems and Data Communications Analyst (Network and Computer Systems Administrator - BLS) are:

- Installing all network hardware and software and make needed upgrades and repairs
