DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AND CONTENT STRATEGY

The Director of Communications and Content Strategy will develop and deploy a comprehensive, integrated, and highly distinctive strategy for brand identity,marketing, content and communications for the ICA. Launched in 2018, the ICA seeks to establish a global reputation, build strong relationships with local communities, and sustain high levels of attendance. The Director of Communications and Content Strategy will lead the Institute's efforts to achieve these goals. They will manage a full-time team of three (including graphic design, writing and editorial, and digital content) as well as part-time staff and/or student workers. The Director of Communications and Content Strategy is a member of the ICA's senior team, reporting to the Executive Director of the ICA, and will work closely with other senior staff at the ICA, across VCU and with external consultants and content producers in Richmond and beyond.

Job responsibilities include:
* Lead the development and implementation of integrated strategies, plans, and campaigns for the ICA's marketing, advertising, public relations, promotions, and social media activities.
* Lead audience research and development
* Develop compelling content and and dynamic digital strategies that feature high-quality digital art direction
* Champion brand application, evaluation, and planning
* Lead public relations functions, including paid and earned media planning, press relations, crisis communication strategy, and serving as a primary liaison with our national PR partner.
* Conduct relevant research, data, and analysis of industry trends.
* Create and maintain budgets for a multi-disciplinary department
* Represent the institute with a broad array of constituents, including VCU, community organizations, promotional partners, and arts and business leaders.
* Foster and maintain a network of contacts with counterparts at other museums (local, national, and international), other regional arts organizations, and marketing and communications professionals in the corporate sector;
* Oversee creative development, production, and distribution of all communications publications and promotional materials, including but not limited to exhibition interpretation, member materials, annual reports, web presence, social media, and other marketing collateral.
* Model and facilitate open dialogue within the department, with internal and external partners, and with diverse audiences.



* Excellent oral and written communications skills and strong creative problem-solving and analytic capabilities; * Expertise in the development, implementation, and evaluation of long-range marketing plans and marketing research;
* Demonstrated success with developing and executing marketing and communications strategies designed to increase attendance and revenue;
* The ability to work effectively with others as part of a team, including skill in organizing work and supervising a team for maximum effectiveness;
* The ability to interact in an effective, tactful, and professional manner with the internal and external teams, the media, and the public;
* Experience with developing and maintaining financial projections and budgets, with strong financial and organizational management skills.
* The ability to oversee and evaluate digital marketing, online and mobile advertising, and social media initiatives;
* Comfort with and flexibility in working with living artists, with the ability to adapt to diverse input and embrace shared decision-making.
* Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU



* Graduate from an accredited college or university with degree or equivalent experience in English, creative writing, journalism, marketing or communications
* Knowledge of museum operations, the arts industry, and arts marketing
* Experience using WordPress and CMS
* Familiarity with Adobe creative suite
