DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES

The Director of Human Resources will oversee all strategic and functional Human Resources operations of Cleveland Play House (CPH). The Director of Human Resources will develop and implement strategic human resource initiatives related to benefits; compensation; and recruiting, hiring, developing and retaining staff, with a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). A priority for this position will be developing relationships with the CPH staff and supporting the staff in pursuit of the CPH mission: to inspire, stimulate, and entertain diverse audiences across Northeast Ohio with plays and theatre education programs of the highest professional standards. CPH has a very active commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and is working across the organization to achieve comprehensive EDI goals. The Director of Human Resources will be instrumental in building policies and practices that support that work.



The Director of Human Resources is a member of the Leadership Team. This newly created position currently has no direct reports, but will hire 1-3 staff members in the coming year. When the HR staff is developed, this position will have a greater focus on strategy.



KEY FUNCTIONS



STRATEGY AND POLICY





  • Develop and implement new policies and procedures in conjunction with the leadership team to advance CPH's work to become an inclusive and equitable institution where every employee feels that they belong


  • Communicate all policies clearly and effectively to staff




TALENT ACQUISITION



  • Oversee the recruiting and hiring process for all regular and seasonal positions (full and part-time)


  • Work with hiring managers to ensure a consistent recruiting process, including a focus on diversity and inclusion


  • Communicate initial job offers to prospective employees


  • Compose and send offer letters and benefits information, set start date


  • Develop and oversee new employee orientations for all positions


  • Enhance and oversee onboarding of new hires, including notifying other staff of new hires


  • Develop and maintain initiative to promote salary transparency and fairness across the organization


  • PERSONNEL/PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT



  • Counsel managers on procedures relating to performance review and development, including performance improvement plans, as necessary


  • Manage personnel issues in conjunction with Department Heads as appropriate


  • Develop and implement enhanced performance evaluation process, with a specific lens toward equity. Work with managers on the evaluation timeline, ensuring evaluations are completed and documented annually.


  • Ensure that job descriptions for all positions are maintained and updated on a regular basis


  • Implement ongoing racial equity audit of hiring, retention rates, promotion rates, and salaries

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES



  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with Human Resources laws and regulations


  • An understanding of the needs and experience working with a complex organization including multiple unions, complex partnerships, full-time and part-time staff, temporary/seasonal, hourly and salaried, apprentices, and interns, etc.


  • Adept as a conflict resolution facilitator


  • Culturally aware and experienced in developing diversity, equity & inclusion policies


  • Must be a strong self-starter and project manager with the ability to see projects to their conclusion


  • Ability to act with discretion and confidentiality


  • Passion for theatre a plus


  • DESIRED EXPERIENCE



  • Experience with developing protocols across multiple departments in areas such as recruiting, evaluations, professional development, and promotions


  • Success leading an organization in building an equitable, diverse, inclusive and anti-racist culture and structure from a Human Resources perspective, assistance and oversight of the company's recruiting, onboarding, training and professional development practices and programs


  • Comfortability discussing race and anti-racist policies within the context of an HR Program


  • Experience serving in a human resources capacity for youth programming


  • Experience with benefits administration including insurances, FMLA, workers' compensation, and all benefit-related regulations


  • Experience with change management and organizational development
