DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH & EVALUATION

Momentous Institute has been working to build and repair social-emotional health since 1920. The organization serves over 5,500 children and family members directly each year through mental health programs and a social-emotional health-based curriculum at its nationally acclaimed Momentous School. In addition to our direct work with children and families, we invest in research and social-emotional health training in an effort to help far more children than we can serve directly. On average, we train over 9,000 professionals from 16 states annually.



The Opportunity



Momentous Institute is seeking a Director of Research and Evaluation. The successful candidate will work alongside the organization's mental health, education, and innovation and impact teams in an effort to understand how and why social-emotional health programming helps children to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will have extensive experience conducting developmental evaluation of programs as well as designing and overseeing efficacy studies of interventions in a naturalistic setting.



Essential duties and responsibilities:





  • Further develop and implement the strategic plan for the research and evaluation team.


  • Supervise a research team, including a director of clinical research, research psychologists, research coordinators and research specialists.


  • Work closely with program directors and school/research partners to evaluate programs and plan/implement specific projects.


  • Measure and report on the organization's annual strategic goals for direct services and training efforts.


  • Manage and report on the13-year longitudinal tracking of Momentous School alumni


  • Support the development, monitoring and reporting for grants.


  • Present research findings at local and national conferences and training events.


  • Publish peer-reviewed research articles on an annual basis.


  • Develop and monitor the annual budget for research and evaluation.

The Director of Research and Evaluation reports to the Executive Director and works in a highly collaborative fashion with other members of the executive team including:



  • Director of Education


  • Director of Innovation and Impact


  • Director of Therapeutic Services


  • Director of Leadership and Governance


  • Director of Operations


  • Senior Director of Communications


  • Senior Director of Finance


  • The collaborative nature of the organization extends to leaders and staff at the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and the Salesmanship Club Charitable Golf of Dallas.



    Educational and Experience Requirements:



  • Ph.D. in psychology (developmental, clinical), education, or related field


  • 6+ years of experience conducting research and evaluation studies of education and/or mental health programs, with a focus on developmental evaluation (i.e., use of techniques that support innovative program development in dynamic environments)


  • A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals (preferably as first author)


  • Experience with developing and leading a team of research staff


  • Strong intra- and inter-personal competencies, including

  • Deep respect for diversity of cultures and perspectives among clients and families with whom we work and among fellow staff and Club members


  • Able to quickly frame concepts/ideas using knowledge of existing psychological/educational theories and evidence-based practices

  • Child development theories and firm grasp of research findings related to intersection of mental health and education


  • Expertise in social-emotional health assessment


  • Process and Outcome Evaluation techniques


  • Inferential Statistics (traditional and more contemporary approaches)


  • Management of databases (Including SPSS, Access and Excel)


  • Desired personal qualities:
