Position Title: GIS/Inventory Forester

Position Location: Junction City, Oregon

Immediate Supervisor: Area Manager

Positions Supervised by this Position: None


Key Function of Position:

The GIS/Inventory Forester will provide the technical expertise of GIS and inventory systems required to manage the collection of timber inventory and GIS data at the local forestry office.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely update of GIS and Inventory databases to reflect forestry operations.

  • Conduct spatial data editing using LRM and/or ESRI ArcGIS editing tools.

  • Satisfy GIS and reporting requests related to daily needs of operational forestry staff.

  • Provide technical support for local forestry staff.

  • Participate with the regional staff to establish an annual cruise plan.

  • Implement the annual cruise plan through the management of in-house and third-party contract cruising efforts. Perform check cruising and applicable data quality control checks.

  • Ensure timely update of LRM and/or inventory databases to reflect new cruising.

  • Conduct project-specific cruising and audit cruising of third-party contractors.

  • Ensure that corporate data standards and data consistency is achieved.

  • Perform ad-hoc queries and analyses as needed by local forestry staff.

  • Coordinate with the Regional Office to update and enhance existing systems to better meet the needs of local forestry staff.

  • Support and participate fully in local SFI program.

  • Ensure that environmental or financial risk management reporting is conducted in a timely and professional manner to your Area Manager and, if appropriate, local Safety Coordinator.

  • Respond to internal and external information requests in conjunction with management and team members.

  • Actively participate within the organization to ensure all timberland management investment services meet or exceed client commitments.

  • Represent Campbell Global at the local level, maintaining positive public relations.

  • Other duties as required.

  • This Position is considered exempt based on job responsibilities.

Qualifications for Position:

  • Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Forestry, GIS or related field.

  • Equivalent of two years previous work experience in forestry and/or GIS.

  • Experience and knowledge required/preferred:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of forestry, forest inventory and forest mensuration, highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS software.

  • Knowledge of SQL and relational databases, desirable.

  • Work experience using industrial GIS and forest inventory systems, preferred.

  • Work experience managing timber cruise contractors, preferred.

  • Work experience using industrial forest inventory system, preferred.

  • Must have:

  • Planning, budgeting, and forecasting skills.

  • Familiarity with legal implications in key areas of responsibility.

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.

  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Good computer skills, especially MS Excel and Word.

  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record.

  • Ability to work alone in the outdoors over extremely rough, brushy, and uneven terrain in all weather conditions required.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds daily.
