The responsibility of the International Sales Manager is to implement international sales and marketing strategies in alignment with Black Diamonds corporate strategic initiatives to increase sales and profitability of Independent Global Distributors (IGD) specific to Asia & Latin America, through product assortments, pricing, marketing support, trade shows, grassroots events and strategic initiatives. Collaborate and coordinate with BDs sales teams in North America and Europe. Supervise and support the International Accounts Coordinators, ensuring the success of their accounts while directly managing key international accounts.

Essential Functions:

Corporate Communication

  1. Directly manage key accounts and supervise the monthly shipment plans in conjunction with the International Account Coordinator.

  2. Provide IAs with strategic direction on sales, marketing, PR, forecasting and promotion of BD products.

  3. Maintain high customer satisfaction levels. Monitor and evaluate accounts to ensure the International Account Coordinator provides accurate order processing, on-time delivery to customers and response to customer inquiries.

  4. Manage International Account Coordinators, insuring high quality of customer service for IAs: product forecasting, credit, purchase orders, delivery & logistics.

  5. Provide IA's feedback, suggestions and recommendations for implementing BD corporate policies and initiatives into their own businesses.

  6. Monitor and insure adherence of distributors to international distributor agreement terms and conditions, BD brand standards, and marketing agreements.

  7. Report to BD leadership on the status of the IGD business with trip reports, IAs sales, product/market trends, events, trade shows, competition, and opportunities.

Sales & Marketing

  • Work with the Director of International Sales to implement long and short-term strategies and objectives for increasing international sales and profits.

  • Promote and sell company products through direct customer and industry contacts. Conduct product demonstrations and train international distributors on product.

  • Develop and obtain an International Sales and Marketing Plan from each of the key international distributors, using information as base for the development of the international departments strategic plan.

  • Develop and implement international marketing activities that include distribution, pricing, promotion, POP, marketing analysis/condition, and trade shows.

  • With Marketing, develop multi-lingual packaging, catalogs and marketing support materials as supported by sales objectives by territory.

  • Work with Marketing to develop an international marketing tool box to support regional sell-in/sell-through strategy and initiatives.

  • Qualifications:


    • Preferred: Bachelors degree International Business Degree or similar field.

    Work Experience:

  • Required: 2-5 years sales and marketing experience in the Outdoor Industry.

  • Preferred: 5+ years international sales and marketing experience in the outdoor Industry. 2 years supervisory/management experience. Bilingual in foreign language(s) preferred.

  • Skills and general experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively implement sales and marketing plans, procedures and policies.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with customers; both internal and external, native and non-native English speakers and sensitive to cultural differences and traditions in business.

  • Able to work with little supervision or direction, prioritizing short- and long-term projects on a day-to-day basis insuring accomplishment of department goals.

  • Able to create an environment that promotes creativity and an exchange of information and ideas throughout the corporation.

  • Able to represent the values, ideals and ethics of the company both within the company and to external customers.

  • Technical knowledge of climbing, trail running, and back country ski equipment required.

  • Ability and flexibility to work during evenings and early mornings when and if required do to the intensive travel schedule.

  • Strong computer skills: Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, Word processing skills mandatory.

  • Required licenses: Valid Passport.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • General physical requirements: Sedentary work, extensive international travel up to 20% of the time, 2-3 week trips and working early morning and/or later evening hours to maintain contact with IAs and BD internal responsibilities.

  • Visual acuity requirements: Color vision, visual inspection, depth perception.

  • Motion and sensory requirements: Reaching, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing.

  • Physical working conditions: Inside Environment.
