The Learning Partnership is seeking two postdoctoral research fellows to conduct research on computer science student outcomes related to one of two researcher-practitioner partnerships. The Chicago Alliance for Equity in Computer Science (CAFECS) is a researcher-practitioner partnership between the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), DePaul University, Loyola University, University of Illinois at Chicago, and The Learning Partnership. PUMP is a researcher-practitioner partnership between the Milwaukee Public Schools, Marquette University, AIR, and The Learning Partnership. Both RPPs are committed to ensuring that every high school student receives a compelling and relevant experience in computer science. The successful candidates will engage in quantitative analyses of the factors that correlated with student outcomes.


  • Conduct research that addresses a problem of practice facing the partner school districts

  • Engage in systematic processes for collecting, organizing, and analyzing data

  • Balance rigor and feasibility in the design of research

  • Develop and share knowledge and theory that contributes to the research base

  • Share results in ways that take into account the needs of practitioners

  • Develop and share new tools/routines that can be adapted for improvement work in other settings

  • Keep abreast of the field in educational research and development

  • Assist in new proposal development

  • Work together effectively with a variety of staff and partners on multiple projects

Required qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Learning Sciences, Education, Computer Science, Sociology or the equivalent

  • Relevant research experience in urban settings

  • Demonstrated ability to publish research papers

  • Deep understanding of relevant literature

  • Clear experience and motivation to generate innovative approaches and solutions

  • Demonstrated ability as a team player, willing to pitch in and do what needs to be done

  • Excellent communication skills
