Summary/Objective
The planner/buyer manages all documentation needed in production to manage and schedule orders in the manufacturing. This includes opening and closing work orders, production documents, serial number management, Engineering Change Order (ECO) management, updating bills of materials (BOMs) and purchasing of commodity components. The planner/buyer will help control an expenditure base of $2.5 to $3.5 million per year for materials and/or services to support the company's purchasing and inventory programs. The planner/buyer is responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the company's needs for indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality and at delivery competitive levels consistent with company policy and performance standards.
Essential Functions

1. Coordinates the planning of machine orders and large spare part orders with the Chief of Production and the Sales Team.
2. Prepares the necessary shipping documentation for machine orders.
3. Coordinates the shipping of spare part orders with the Sales Team.
4. Opens and closes work orders.
5. Coordinates Engineering Change Orders with Purchasing and Production by updating BOMs based on the ECO Disposition and the inventory position.
6. Initiates purchase orders and amendments for parts, services and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; maintains close coordination with production to ensure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities.
7. Coordinates as appropriate quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Preferred Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis in business administration, economics or engineering with two years of progressively responsible planning and/or purchasing and materials control experience in a manufacturing environment.
2. Experience in planning manufacturing schedules and systems.
3. Experience in purchasing commodities such as fabricated metal, electronics, hardware, cables, molded parts, etc.
4. Inventory control experience such as cycle counts , physical inventory and Kanban.
