SCIENCES LIBRARIAN

Reporting to the Heading of the Research, Instruction, and Reference Department, the Sciences Librarian provides instruction and acts as liaison to areas in the sciences and health sciences; provides reference services 8-12 hours a week. As a tenure-track faculty member, this position is expected to fulfill requirements in librarianship, service and scholarly activity as described in University Libraries tenure criteria.



Duties include:





  • Offer instruction and provide research support, including consultations and the creation of resource materials, in assigned areas.


  • Communicate with faculty, staff and students in assigned areas regarding library services and resources and to gain understanding of developing user needs. In consultation with faculty and fellow librarians, develop collections that support faculty and students.


  • Provide general reference assistance, including on evenings and weekends, and participate in general instruction including information literacy sections.


  • Serve on library and university committees, task forces, and special projects/events and teams (i.e., web pages team, instruction and information literacy team). Participate in decision making within the department.

Minimum Qualifications:



A Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution in the US or Canada. Minimum of 2 years reference experience in an academic or public library. A minimum of an undergraduate degree in the sciences or equivalent experience.



Preferred Qualifications:



Knowledge of developments in higher education, scholarly processes and personnel issues facing academic research libraries. Three or more years of experience providing instruction and reference service in an academic library. Undergraduate degree or higher in Biology or a health science.
