K&L Gates is seeking a Senior Manager, Library & Research Services to join its Library & Research Services team. This position, eligible to be based in any U.S. office, is responsible for the management and accessibility of the Library & Research Services' information resources, both print and digital. This role directs the department's Information Resources team, with the key the objective of delivering our information resources innovatively, seamlessly and cost-effectively to to K&L Gates' lawyers and allied professionals. The position is also responsible for managing local office libraries, principally in the U.S., including authoring their respective budgets and managing them to plan.

The successful candidate will be a highly-skilled and creative technologist, able to work cooperatively with department team members and other allied professionals. Additionally, the successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, as well as a commitment to providing high-quality work product and customer-oriented service.


This position is part of the Library & Research Services team, who are situated in multiple offices and work collaboratively to serve lawyers and allied professionals across K&L Gates' global platform. This position reports to the Director, Library & Research Services and directly manages U.S. local library managers and the Manager, Technical Services. This role also works closely with the Directors of Administration and Managing Partners in firm offices, and local Office Services personnel.


* Assist the Director of Library and Research Services in managing the Library & Research Services team, and the development of the department's near-term and long-term strategic goals and objectives.
* Assist the Director with the development of the library's annual budget and oversight of its expenditures.
* Create and manage to plan local office library budgets for multiple U.S. offices, and provide advisement and oversight on several local office budgets currently being managed by library team members.
* Closely track expenses in local office libraries at a line item level and provide regular reports demonstrating value with an eye towards digitizing and centralizing resources.
* Assist the Director and Senior Manager, Practice Engagement in procurement activities, including analyzing usage data, developing KPIs, and negotiating favorable pricing and terms.
* Direct and counsel Information Resources team, which is responsible for our digital and print solutions, in budget planning, resource allocation, space reconfigurations, and other key duties necessary to effectively deliver library services and resources.
* Research and monitor trends in library services and information resources, including new technologies, and look for opportunities to align those tools and services with the firm's goals and information needs.
* Oversee management of the Library's ILS and digital information resources, including ensuring timely and seamless access via password, IP, and SAML authentication.
* Collaborate and liaise with our IT team and library suppliers to ensure seamless access to resources and, if appropriate, creating and implementing customized solutions.
* Provide ongoing assessment of technical services processes with an eye toward reducing duplication and waste, streamlining workflow, and providing consistent library service in firm offices, specifically those without formal library staffing.


* Master's degree in Library &Information Science from an ALA accredited program, preferably with course work in law librarianship or legal bibliography. A Juris Doctor degree is desirable, but not required.
* Minimum five years of increasing responsibilities performing a wide variety of duties related to library services and management.
* Previous experience with direct supervision, budgeting, space planning, project and organizational planning.
* Experience in management of multi-state and multi-branch libraries is preferred.
* Proficiency in legal and business research and current knowledge of legal and business research bibliography.
* Previous experience planning and implementing research services and resources which position the library as an integral firm function.
* Ability to meet obligations with confidentiality, integrity and sensitivity


* Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, evening and/or weekend hours to meet deadlines.
* Some occasional overnight stays and travel required to support office libraries or for professional development.
* This job operates in an office setting and is largely sedentary, requiring the routine use of a computer and other standard office equipment. The ability to open file cabinets, lift files, bend and stand on a stool may also be required.
