The IAFF currently has an immediate opportunity for a Staff Assistant to support our Governmental Affairs Department.



Summary of the Position:



Provides legislative and administrative support for the department. Typical tasks may include basic research and writing, monitoring legislation and Congressional activities, proofreading and editing written materials, recordkeeping, and answering and screening telephone calls.



Your Main Responsibilities:





  • Monitoring relevant activities on Capitol Hill and the Administration including tracking legislation and monitoring hearings


  • Assisting with website updates as well as creating, editing and distributing a variety of documents for internal and external use


  • Maintaining and updates Congressional research files and voting records


  • Conducting legislative and subject matter research


  • Supporting Director in executing the annual Legislative Conference and other special events


  • Proofreading all printed material


  • Fileting and tracking quarterly lobby disclosure reports


  • Tracking and processing internal expenditures, coordinates with vendors, and provides support for the department's budgetary activities


  • Performing other duties as required to support the department and its mission




Requirements



You will have:



  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


  • Excellent attention to detail


  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously


  • Ability to distill and articulate complex issues and messages to a variety of audiences


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite


  • Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree


  • Understanding of the legislative process as well as the workings of Capitol Hill


  • 1-3 years' experience relevant to the position
