SUBSTATIONS LINEMAN

DO YOU SEEK A UNIQUE WORK ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH TO APPLY YOUR MUCH-VALUED LINEMAN SKILLSET?

Seriously... if you are looking for meaningful work (ensuring top-notch electric service to a demanding-but-appreciative community) with limited, local travel (only) and with a positive work/life balance... career stability at a committed 100-person organization whose culture is imbedded in public service & employee safety... if you are burnt-out at your current employer, and truly seek a positive change, we'd be honored if you'd consider Naperville!

The City of Naperville's Department of Public Utilities - Electric has a terrific opportunity for a competent & experienced professional Line Electrician to perform the highly-skilled work of installing & maintaining electric substation equipment & components, and testing & repairing overhead high voltage electric utility lines, substation equipment, and switchgear.

Naperville is an award-winning community of 147,000 residents, conveniently located 28 miles west of Chicago. Our municipally-owned Electric Utility is locally controlled and managed, providing rates that are among the lowest in the state, and service that is among the most reliable. The Department of Public Utilities - Electric currently serves 57,000 customers with 1000 miles of transmission and distribution lines (of which 90% are underground) and a 400MW peak demand/1,500,000 MWH annually. We operate 16 substations within the City's geographic limits.

As a valued member of our Supply & Control (Substations) team, you will use an aerial bucket, hot stick tools, and other equipment to install, repair and operate underground & overhead high voltage electric utility lines, transformers, switchgear, and other substation equipment. The team locates, isolates, and makes repairs to electric lines, cables and other component parts of substation systems. You will install & repair electric substation components (power transformers, metering equipment, conduits, circuit breakers, switchgear, panel board wiring, etc.), and operate, interrogate, program & install electronic equipment and controls (using computers to program & download information).

Our Substation Linemen install, read and record monitoring instrumentation; assist in the construction of transmission facilities (including towers, poles, and high tension lines); and assist in the care of equipment/tools used in electric utility construction and maintenance. You will perform substation switching operations, work on substation testing (taking readings, oil tests, relay tests, and other troubleshooting), and perform routine substation grounds maintenance as assigned.
