Hiring Cardiac Surgeon at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York

The Department of Surgery at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University is accepting applications for a faculty position. The Division of Cardiac, Thoracic & Vascular Surgery is seeking a Board-Certified Cardiac Surgeons to qualify for the rank of Assistant Professor.

The candidate must demonstrate a high level of expertise in all areas of adult cardiac surgery as well as mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation. The role involves managing a cardiogenic shock program in collaboration with heart failure and interventional cardiologists as well as operating on general cardiac surgery cases. Responsibilities include preoperative assessment, operative management, and postoperative care of cardiac surgical patients. The surgeon will join our skilled heart failure cardiology team to contribute to the growth of a high-volume, high-quality program. We offer a comprehensive range of heart failure treatments, including heart transplantation, implantable left ventricular assist devices, and cardiogenic shock therapy. Strong interest in fostering professional relationships that support programmatic growth and development is essential.

Interested candidates should have excellent clinical judgement, technical skills, professionalism, and demonstrate a strong interest in and history of peer-reviewed publications.

In addition to clinical duties, the incumbent will teach medical students, residents, fellows, and physician extenders. Responsibilities include participation in the academic, and research missions of the University and the Department of Surgery.

Candidates for the position must be Board eligible/certified and must be licensed to practice or eligible for a license in the State of New York, with the training to qualify for academic appointment at the Assistant Professor level. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience and academic qualifications. A board-eligible Surgeon would be appointed at the Instructor rank until board certied.

Hiring salary range is $94,945 – $125,187 (minimum faculty base for rank). The final salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
