Fundraising Strategy:Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support organizational growth and sustainability, with a focus on major gifts, individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government grants.Lead efforts to diversify revenue streams, including securing long-term institutional partnerships, corporate sponsorships, and planned giving initiatives.Create annual and multi-year fundraising goals, tracking progress and adjusting strategies to meet targets.Oversee the identification, writing, and submission of grant proposals to foundations, government entities, and other funding bodies.Monitor trends and opportunities in the philanthropic landscape, recommending new opportunities for funding.Work closely with the Managing Director to align fundraising strategies with organizational priorities.Stewardship:Establish a culture of donor stewardship, ensuring the Development team has ongoing engagement with funders and robustly recognizes contributions.Act as the primary liaison for high-net-worth individuals and institutional donors, leading donor meetings and stewardship events.Oversee the development of internal systems and processes for donor management, including using CRM tools to track and manage relationships.Assist in identifying and engaging potential Board members and other key influencers who can support the organizations growth.Communications:Oversee donor communications, ensuring alignment with the organizations messaging and mission.Collaborate with the Development and Outreach teams to develop compelling fundraising materials and campaigns, including newsletters, annual reports, and social media.Enhance the organizations public profile through strategic outreach, including speaking engagements, conferences, and community partnerships.Champion storytelling to highlight the impact of the organizations work on refugee communities, ensuring that donor communications reflect the stories of those served.Supervisory Responsibilities:Lead the development team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth. Manage the workflow for the Development department to run smoothly and efficiently.Provide leadership and support to the Development team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and values. Including but not limited to; training new staff and providing opportunities for professional development.Reports Development teams performance to the Managing Director.  This includes but is not limited to evaluating each member of the Development team and record employee punctuality, performance on goals, professionalism, disciplinary issues, and adherence to FORAs policies. Conducts performance reviews with each employee twice per year.Provides clear and timely feedback to the Development team about job performance based on their job descriptions.  This should include both positive and constructive feedback.Key Competency Skills:Proven track record of success in nonprofit fundraising, with at least 5-7 years of experience in development. Experience securing and managing multi-year, large-scale grants from foundations, government agencies, or  corporate partners. Has a strong understanding of fundraising strategies, donor cultivation, and major gift solicitation.Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for a diverse audience. This includes but is not limited to storytelling, pitches, and cold calling to persuade potential donors.Possesses strong interpersonal skills, such as persuasion and motivation, to build strong donor relationships. As well as, strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.Maintains motivation and perseverance in light of donation request rejections.Listens and communicates effectively in welcoming a diversity of opinions, needs, and cultures.Deep understanding of refugees and community support work. Commitment to honor the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of our students and their parents.Other Responsibilities:Provides support to the Managing Director by spearheading Board of Directors special projects pertaining to fundraising and development activities.Assists Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officers with special projects and programming as deemed necessary.Participates and attends staff meetings, professional development meetings, and technical knowledge based learning meetings. The Chief Development Officer  must endorse, embrace, and enact FORAs vision, mission, and values (as described at www.refugeefora.org). Employees are expected to support all other FORA departments as requested by staff supervisors in order to ensure the smooth operation of FORA programming and special events. The position is in-person for 40 hours a week on a flexible schedule. The CDO must be available for evenings when tours and events are happening and weekends should tours or events be scheduled then. As an officer of FORA, this job is deemed a management level position as such additional hours may be required outside of normal working hours; no overtime will be paid for those hours. This is an in-person position from our location in the West Ridge area of Chicago.
