They will also maintain a leadership role in our new Coalition, which focuses on affordability reviews at the federal (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and state (Prescription Drug Affordability Board/PDAB) levels. While a significant majority of the advocacy work we do is US based, some participation in international policy activities may be required.This person will report directly to the Director of Public Policy and work with the AiArthritis coalition team, Patient Advocacy Manager, and the volunteer department.Responsibilities:This person will be the grassroots advocacy lead for the organization, including in person and online meetings, federal level coalition member attendance, and effectively engaging our grassroots patient advocates. They will be responsible for legislative tracking and reporting, signing on to and writing letters, emailing support and opposition messages, reporting updates to staff and volunteers, the AiArthritis-led coalitions, and other daily activities necessary to maintain our status as a leader in the advocacy space.Daily/WeeklyOrganize grassroots advocacy efforts by engaging patients to share their stories on legislative/regulatory priorities identified by the Director of Public Policy, and report back.Build out and actively engage advocates by identifying and organizing a network of patient advocates, overseeing recruitment efforts through social media campaigns.Identify and implement effective grassroots campaign tactics and actions, including fly-ins, action alerts, story banking, digital campaigns, petitions, field organizing, and more.Plan and participate in federal and state Hill Days (and fly-ins/future), arranging targeted meetings with local stakeholders.Create effective reporting systems for grassroots to provide regular updates on their interactions with lawmakers.Track and monitor legislation/regulation impacting AiArthritis advocacy priorities using Fast Democracy and Google Sheets. Sign on to letters and share posts on social media (predominantly X). Attend public hearings and provide testimony when required (largely virtual).Collaborate with key stakeholders (i.e. legislative aides, FDA/EMA, CMS, etc) Attend conferences and webinars (virtual, some in person).Maintain a contact list of volunteers and engage with them regularly.Contribute to strategic planning for advocacy priorities and target states, focus on developing relationships with advocates and stakeholders.Identify focus areas for future advocacy efforts and regular engagement with policymakers.Participate in AiArthritis led coalitions, including the Patient Inclusion Council (PIC)Engage volunteers/community members who want to be more involved in our policy efforts (through the Knowledge = Empowerment grassroots project).Create one pagers, talking points, and other training materials to teach patients to be effective advocates.Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience. A minimum of 2 years experience working in a patient organization/advocacy department. Experience in tracking legislation and coordinating grassroots advocacy efforts. Strong understanding of federal and state legislative processes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to build and maintain professional relationships. Familiarity with social media platforms and their use in advocacy. Highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent multitasking skills. Experience using software applications comparable to Fast Democracy, Slack, Salesforce, and Google Drive. Affected by or experience with autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in healthcare advocacy or related fields. Previous experience collaborating with government agencies and health plans.
