dedicated to rapidly accelerating the discovery of drugs to prevent, treat and cure Alzheimer’s disease.

Position Summary:
The Alzheimers Drug Discovery Foundation is seeking a Major Gifts Officer (MGO) to expand the
foundations reach and build upon existing relationships to increase private funding from individuals and
family foundations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has intellectual curiosity, is entrepreneurial and self motivated,
to work with a talented development team and build a significant portfolio, cultivating major
donors to make an investment in Alzheimers research and drug discovery.
The MGO will have demonstrated success as an engaging fundraiser and be a highly articulate
communicator skilled at making a compelling case for philanthropic support. S/he must be a focused,
strategic professional, possessing exceptional relationship and stewardship skills. Candidates must be
able to demonstrate integrity, diplomacy, and sound judgment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage an existing portfolio of 60-80 donors giving 5-figure gifts, creating renewal plans and upgrade strategies for each.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new prospects with the capacity for 5- and 6-figure gifts.
  • Partner on strategies and relationship management for prospects and donors with the capacity for 7-figure gifts.
  • Collaborate with the special events team to identify new potential donors and utilize special events to engage, develop and deepen relationships.
  • Monitor all prospect and donor contacts through Raisers Edge.
  • Project manage development of stewardship materials: clinical trials snapshot, annual appeal letter, holiday card.
  • Participate in all aspects of the giving cycle using moves management philosophy.
  • Initiate contact with new prospects and develop appropriate customized cultivation strategies including working with volunteers.
  • Adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate an optimistic and positive attitude and appropriately respond to donors concerns and needs.

Professional Experience + Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will be a pro-active team player, self-directed and organized professional.
  • Bachelors degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience soliciting and securing major gifts ($10,000+) in a non-profit organization or comparable experience in wealth management/private banking/sales environment.
  • Exposure to and experience with soliciting and closing 6-figure gifts.
  • Leadership capacity and ability to successfully manage the intersection of science projects, grant making and development objectives.
  • Experience qualifying prospects, developing a portfolio, and stewardship planning.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with co-workers, science staff, donors, prospects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.
  • Possess sophisticated enthusiasm and energy; be self-motivated and able to work well under pressure and handle several projects at one time.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 5 years of development experience with proven track record of success in major gifts fundraising.
