Job DescriptionThe Radiation Therapy Technologist (RTT) will be responsible for delivering prescribed radiation treatments to patients under the direction of a radiation oncologist. Duties include positioning patients accurately, operating radiation therapy equipment, and ensuring adherence to treatment plans. The RTT will monitor patients for any adverse reactions, maintain accurate treatment records, and collaborate with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and dosimetrists to ensure optimal patient care. Compliance with all VA, National Radiation Oncology Program (NROP), and professional accreditation standards is required.ResponsibilitiesAdminister prescribed radiation treatments according to established protocolsAccurately position patients for treatment and ensure proper immobilizationOperate radiation therapy equipment, including Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) systemsMonitor patient responses and report any concerns to the radiation oncologistMaintain detailed treatment records in accordance with VA guidelinesEnsure compliance with safety protocols and radiation regulationsEducate patients on treatment procedures and potential side effectsPerform routine equipment checks and coordinate maintenance as neededAdhere to all policies and guidelines set by the VA, American College of Radiology (ACR), and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)QualificationsEducation:Graduate of an accredited program in Therapeutic Radiologic TechnologyCertificate or associate degree from an institution accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)Experience:Minimum of one year of experience as a Radiation Therapy TechnologistExperience with radiation oncology treatment machines and equipmentProficiency in 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT), IMRT, and IGRTKnowledge of radiation safety protocols and patient care best practicesCertifications and Licenses:Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation TherapyBasic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be renewed every two years)Compliance with all VA-mandated training requirementsAdditional Requirements:Ability to pass background checks and VA credentialing requirementsCompletion of VA-mandated cybersecurity, HIPAA, and patient safety trainingUp-to-date immunizations, including tuberculosis testing, MMR, varicella, Tdap, annual influenza, and COVID-19 vaccination if requiredEmployment DetailsPosition Type: Part-timeHours: Approximately 10 hours per week (520 hours per year)Location: On-site at the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center, Long Beach, CAThis position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing essential care to veterans in a professional and highly regulated healthcare environment.
