We’ve rescued over 85 million pounds of food to date, and were just getting started!Position Summary:The Volunteer Manager will be responsible for overseeing the recruitment, training, coordination, and retention of volunteers for Sharing Excesss food rescue programs in Philadelphia. This individual will play a pivotal role in strengthening the volunteer experience, ensuring volunteers are well-trained, engaged, and aligned with the organizations mission to rescue and redistribute surplus food to those in need.Key Responsibilities:Recruitment & Engagement:Build partnerships with local schools, universities, corporations, and community organizations to attract diverse volunteer groups.Develop targeted recruitment strategies to fill specific volunteer needs for ongoing programs and special events.Manage a dynamic volunteer calendar to ensure optimal staffing for food rescue and distribution activities.Onboarding & Training:Design and implement a streamlined onboarding process that includes orientation materials, training sessions, and role-specific guidance for new volunteers.Provide ongoing training sessions to enhance volunteer skills, including topics like food safety, distribution logistics, and cultural humility.Volunteer Scheduling & Communication:Create and maintain an automated system for volunteer scheduling and communication, including shift reminders and updates.Act as the primary point of contact for volunteers, addressing inquiries, resolving scheduling conflicts, and ensuring a positive experience.Volunteer Development & Retention:Develop and implement new volunteer opportunities that align with organizational goals, including leadership roles (e.g., Volunteer Team Leaders).Plan and execute regular volunteer appreciation events, such as recognition ceremonies, social gatherings, or awards.Volunteer Feedback & Impact:Develop and distribute volunteer surveys to collect feedback and identify opportunities for program improvement.Track volunteer hours, demographics, and impact metrics using volunteer management software.Generate reports on volunteer contributions for internal review, grant applications, and donor updates.Collaboration & Outreach:Collaborate with other departments to integrate volunteers into broader organizational initiatives.Work closely with the Marketing department to create a communications plan that keeps volunteers engaged, including newsletters, social media updates, and personalized outreach.Qualifications and Requirements:Located in Philadelphia, PA, and available for morning volunteer shifts (7:30-10:30 AM) as well as occasional evenings and weekends.Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in volunteer management, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.2+ years of experience managing and scaling volunteer programs at a non-profit organizationStrong organizational and communication skills.Proficiency in volunteer management systems (experience with VOMO is a plus).Passion for food justice and community empowerment.Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up tp 40 pounds, ability to stand for extended periods, ability to perform repetitive movements associated with food distribution.Compensation:Starting Salary: $65,000 annually (commensurate with experience).
