TECHNICAL BUSINESS ANALYST AT HEARST
Troy, MI

MOTOR Information Systems, an operating group of Hearst, has an exciting opportunity for a passionate Technical Business Analyst who understands that building complex web experiences requires truly researched and engineered solutions. The mindset and toolbox for this role has radically advanced over the last couple years. We are embracing this change to redefine our technology architecture by utilizing modern .NET Core + Angular + open source, cloud native and services-based approaches to build our new ecosystem of applications.

We are looking for someone possessing a technical and web applications background who wants to be part of our mission to transform the future. As such, we have a rare opportunity for you to use your talent, passion, and expertise to help drive how we build our customer facing product lines, and how consumers experience the MOTOR Platform. As such, this is not purely a Data Analyst or traditional Business Analyst role. Having a technical background will be important in being the individual working with both the engineering teams and stakeholders, but you will also need to be multi-functional, possessing a combination of capabilities from other roles. You will function as a skillful BA while also bringing a mix of Product Owner, Scrum Master and Project Manager skills to the table. Working with building customer facing Web Applications and SaaS Products you will also need to have experience working with user interface design, Experience Design (XD) and product development.

Responsibilities:

• Do research such as interviewing customers and stakeholders to determine requirements and creating business, functional and technical specifications
• Analyze and organize gathered information to understand, communicate and help implement requirements
• Provide coordination between customers, business stakeholders, experience design and the technology team before, during and after projects
• Facilitate a consistent and organized flow of information during projects
• Coordinate the integration of experience design process throughout the stages of the product owner and development process
• Determine operational objectives by studying business functions; gathering information; evaluating output requirements and formats
• Construct workflow charts and diagrams; studying system capabilities; writing business, functional and technical specifications
• Improve systems by studying current practices; designing modifications
• Recommend controls by identifying problems; writing improved processes
• Define project requirements by identifying project milestones, phases and elements
• Maintain user confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
• Prepare technical reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
• Validate resource requirements and support developing development effort and cost models
• Conduct and coordinate financial, product, market, operational and related research to support strategic and business planning within the various departments and programs of the client group
• Be involved supporting Experience Design process and Customer Experience integration into product development
• Interpret, evaluate and interrelate research data and develop integrated business analyses and projections for incorporation into strategic decision-making
• Plan and coordinate the development of market research and customer engagement in support of strategic product planning initiatives
• Perform reviews and analyses of product platforms using operational metrics and reports
• Understand and communicate the impacts of proposed product and technology changes
• Suggest changes to leadership using analytics to support your recommendations. Actively participate in the implementation of approved changes
• Create informative, actionable and repeatable reporting that highlights relevant business trends and opportunities for improvement
• Conduct insightful, ad hoc analyses to investigate ongoing or one-time operational issues
• Facilitating day-to-day coordination while adhering to standards and stakeholder expectations
• Collaborate with and guide designers, developers, QA testers and other stakeholders to deliver quality products on time and on budget


Requirements:

• Strong background in technology space and prior hands-on technical background
• Background working with management, product owners and executive stakeholders
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are a must; negotiating skills are an essential skill
• Understanding of technical specifications and must be able to communicate in “business” and “technical” to bridge the gap
• Have an understanding of SQL to create queries to analyze and work with data
• Ability to impact operations and effect change without being confrontational; strong collaborator and team player
• Detail oriented, analytical and inquisitive
• Ability to work independently and with others
• Extremely organized with strong time-management skills
• Ability to convey requirements via use cases, workflows, prototypes, and/or user interface mockups

Nice to Have:
• Team leadership experience
• Experienced project management background (PMP Certification a bonus)
• Experienced in Agile (SCRUM) processes (CSM / A-CSM Certification a bonus)
• Knowledge of Agile Product Owner processes (CSPO / A-CSPO Certification a bonus)
• Knowledge and experience with Experience Design Processes (UX, CX and UI)
